Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple

Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India
Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple is the premier of the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is one of the largest functioning religious complexes in the world, spanning 156 acres. The temple is located on an island formed by the rivers Kaveri and Kollidam. It features seven concentric walls (pra karams) and 21 gopurams. The main deity, Lord Ranganatha, is seen in a reclining posture (Anantashayana) on the serpent Adisesha. The temple has historical layers from the Chola, Pandya, Hoysala, and Vijayanagara periods. It is not just a temple but a self-contained township with homes and shops inside the outer enclosures. The spiritual atmosphere is unmatched, drawing millions of pilgrims annually. :
