Kartik Swami Temple is a breathtaking shrine dedicated to Lord Kartikeya, the elder son of Lord Shiva. Perched atop the Kronch Parvat at an altitude of 3,050 meters, it offers one of the most stunning 360-degree views of the Himalayan range. The temple is located in the Rudraprayag district and is reached via a 3 KM trek from the village of Kanakchauri. Legend has it that Lord Kartikeya, after losing a race around the universe to his brother Ganesha, offered his flesh to his father and his bones to the mountain as a mark of devotion. The temple houses a naturally occurring idol of the deity. The trek to the temple is moderately easy, passing through dense forests of oak and rhododendron. As you ascend, the trees thin out, revealing the sharp ridge on which the temple stands. The final stretch consists of roughly hundreds of stone steps that lead directly to the temple. The wind at the top is exceptionally strong, and the silence is profound. From the temple courtyard, one can see peaks like Chaukhamba, Trishul, Nanda Devi, and Kedarnath with unparalleled clarity. It is often described as a place where the earth meets the sky. The temple is simple, avoiding grand decorations in favor of spiritual austerity. The sound of hundreds of bells tied by devotees creates a rhythmic melody when the wind blows. It is a favorite among photographers for its spectacular sunrise and sunset views. Unlike other tourist-heavy spots, Kartik Swami remains relatively peaceful, offering a soul-stirring experience for those who make the climb. The surrounding area is also rich in biodiversity, with frequent sightings of rare birds. :

Health & Safety: The air is thin, so walk slowly. Carry a windcheater as it is always windy at the top.

Packing: Good trekking shoes are mandatory. Carry water as there are no shops on the trail.
