Uluppuni Top Station

Vagamon, Kerala, India
Uluppuni Top Station is a breathtaking hilltop destination located on the border of Kottayam and Idukki districts. It is often referred to as the "Trekker's Paradise" due to its challenging yet rewarding off-road terrain and pristine meadows. The journey to the top is an adventure in itself, involv ing a 7-km stretch of rugged, unpaved roads that are best navigated by a 4x4 vehicle or on foot. Once you reach the summit, the landscape opens up into a vast sea of emerald green meadows that seem to roll on forever. The view from the top is nothing short of spectacular, offering a bird's-eye perspective of the Kulamavu Dam reservoir and the surrounding reserve forests. The air is noticeably cooler and thinner here, often accompanied by strong winds and shifting clouds that can envelop the hills in seconds. Uluppuni gained significant fame after being featured in the Malayalam movie "Iyobinte Pusthakam," where it stood in for the historic Munnar of centuries ago. Despite its beauty, it remains less commercialized than Vagamon town, offering a sense of solitude and raw nature. Small streams and narrow rock paths are scattered across the hills, adding to the charm of the exploration. It is a place where you can truly disconnect from the modern world and immerse yourself in the elemental beauty of the Western Ghats. The sunrise and sunset at Uluppuni are considered some of the best in Kerala, with the sky turning into a canvas of vibrant oranges and purples against the deep green of the hills.
