The Sacred Base of the Kedarnath Trek: Situated at an altitude of 1,982 meters, Gaurikund is the vital base camp from where the arduous 16 KM trek to Kedarnath begins. The place is named after Goddess Parvati (Gauri), who is said to have performed intense penance here to win Lord Shiva as her husban d. It houses the ancient Gauri Devi Temple, where pilgrims offer prayers before starting their climb. One of the primary attractions here was the natural hot water spring, though its flow was significantly affected during the 2013 floods. Despite the changes, it remains a site of immense spiritual energy and a bustling hub of activity. The town is perched precariously on the mountain slopes overlooking the roaring Mandakini River. For many, it is a place of mental preparation and physical rest before the long journey upward. The atmosphere is filled with the chants of "Jai Bholenath" as thousands of pilgrims gather here daily during the Yatra season. It represents the starting point of a transformative spiritual journey, blending the warmth of faith with the chill of the high Himalayas.
