It is situated in the middle of a small pond, which was once filled with fresh water to keep the surroundings cool during the scorching Deccan summers. The structure is small but intricately designed, reflecting the high artistic taste of the 16th-century rulers. Legend says that it was used by the kings for private meetings or as a place to enjoy music and poetry over the water. Today, the pond is often dry or shallow, but the stone pavilion remains a testament to the advanced hydraulic engineering of that era. It is surrounded by the ruins of other palaces like Gagan Mahal and Sat Manzil. Visiting Jal Mandir gives one a sense of the luxury and refined lifestyle that the sultans enjoyed within the fortified walls of the city. It is a quiet spot, often overlooked by major tour groups, making it a peaceful stop for heritage lovers.
