How To Reach Island Main Jetty

Kadmat, Lakshadweep, India
The Island Main Jetty serves as the primary gateway to Kadmat Island, functioning as the vital connection point for all sea transport—both inter-island ferries from Agatti or other islands and the mainland passenger ships from Kochi. This concrete structure is more than just a functional pier; it is the heartbeat of the island's economic and social life. It is the first sight for arriving tourists and the last view for departing travelers. The jetty is a place of constant activity: local fishermen dock their traditional boats, passenger vessels offload goods and visitors, and islanders gather to greet arrivals or watch the daily movements of the sea. It provides a strategic view of both the inner lagoon and the open sea, marking the point where the calm, shallow waters meet the deeper channel. The area around the jetty is often the most bustling part of the island's village, providing insight into the daily lives and commerce of the Lakshadweep people. It’s also the launch point for most major water sports and fishing excursions, making it a hub of both utility and tourism. Walking along the jetty offers a panoramic perspective of the island's elongated shape and the endless expanse of the Arabian Sea. For tourists, the arrival and departure at the jetty are part of the core experience, symbolizing the isolation and pristine nature of the archipelago. It is a place of transition, anticipation, and farewell, steeped in the island's quiet maritime culture. The structure itself is a crucial piece of infrastructure, built to withstand the ocean's forces and facilitate safe passage for all who travel to and from this remote paradise.

How to Reach

By Air:

The Agatti Connection (Mandatory Boat Transfer): Fly from Kochi (COK) to Agatti (AGX), followed by the compulsory 2-3 hour speed boat or ferry transfer that lands directly at the Island Main Jetty. This is the standard procedure for all air travelers.

By Sea:

Direct Landing (Ship to Shore): The passenger ships from Kochi and other islands dock directly at the jetty. The sea journey from the mainland takes approximately 14 to 20 hours. The jetty is the literal end point of the sea journey.

By Train/Road:

Kochi as Mainland Hub: The journey always originates from Kochi, Kerala, which is accessed by extensive Indian railway and road networks.

By Local Transport:

Island Walking and Cycling: Once on Kadmat Island, the jetty is easily reached. Tourists staying at the resort can walk or cycle there in less than 10 minutes, as the island is narrow and everything is in close proximity. Auto-rickshaws are also available for a quick local ride.
