Built in the early 20th Century by the rulers of the Kanker princely state, it stands as a testament to the region's rich historical and cultural heritage. Originally servin g as the primary residence for the royal family, including the late Maharajadhiraj Udai Pratap Deo and the last ruler, Bhanupratap Dev, the palace was a center for grand celebrations and political events under the British Raj. Today, a significant portion of the palace has been lovingly converted into a premium Heritage Hotel (Kanker Palace Heritage Hotel), allowing visitors to not only explore its historical premises but also to experience the grandeur of royal living. The current royal family still resides in a part of the complex. The palace is an essential link to the pre-independence history of Chhattisgarh, showcasing a period of transition between traditional Indian royalty and colonial influence. It is often cited as a must-visit for its unique blend of architectural styles and well-preserved artifacts.

How to Reach

By Air (Nearest Airport) The nearest airport is Raipur (RPR) (approx. 140 KMS). From Raipur, hire a private taxi directly to the palace/hotel, a journey of about 3 hours. By Train (Nearest Railhead) The nearest major railway station is Raipur Junction (R) (approx. 140 KMS). From the station, frequent bus or cab services are available to Kanker Bus Stand. By Road (In Kanker City) The palace is situated centrally on Palace Road in the Rajpara area of Kanker town. It is easily reachable from the Kanker Bus Stand or NH 30 by a very short (5-10 minute) ride in an auto-rickshaw or taxi. By Local Transport (Easy Access) Since the palace is a major landmark in Kanker, all local transport (auto-rickshaws and cabs) know the location well, making local commuting extremely easy and affordable.
