How To Reach Longtrok

Tuensang, Nagaland, India
Legendary Origin of Tribes: Longtrok, which literally translates to "six stones," is perhaps the most spiritually significant site in Eastern Nagaland. According to the deep-rooted folklore of the Ao Naga, Sangtam, and Phom tribes, their ancestors first emerged from these very stones. The site is lo cated near the village of Chungliyimti and serves as a living museum of Naga ethnography. The environment is thick with an air of ancient mystery, as the stones are believed to possess souls. Visitors can feel the weight of centuries-old oral traditions that have been passed down through generations. This place is not just a destination but a pilgrimage for those looking to understand the core of Naga identity. The surrounding landscape is characterized by rugged hills and dense forests that shield the stones from the modern world. Exploring the area requires a respectful heart, as the local communities still hold these monoliths in high veneration. The tales of the three men and three women who "burst out" from the stones are narrated with great pride by the village elders. It is a place where history and myth are indistinguishable, providing a unique cultural immersion.

How to Reach

The Road to Antiquity: To reach Longtrok, travelers must first arrive at Dimapur, which has the nearest airport and railway station. From Dimapur, a 230 Km journey by road leads to Tuensang town, taking about 10 hours via NH-202. From Tuensang, hire a private 4WD vehicle for the 57 Km drive to the village, as the mountain roads are steep and narrow. Local NST buses ply between Tuensang and nearby junctions, but a private taxi is the most reliable mode for reaching the specific site of the stones.
