How To Reach Vajrapoha Falls
Belagavi, Karnataka, India
Vajrapoha Falls is one of the most spectacular yet least explored waterfalls in the Western Ghats of Karnataka. Formed by the Mandovi River (also known as the Mahadayi), the waterfall drops from a staggering height of approximately 200 meters (660 feet) into a deep, forested gorge. The falls are lo cated within the Bhimgad Wildlife Sanctuary, making the journey an adventure in itself. Unlike more commercialized waterfalls, Vajrapoha requires a trek through dense forests, which keeps it pristine and secluded. The name "Vajrapoha" translates to "Diamond Drop," referring to the way the water sparkles like diamonds as it catches the sunlight during its long descent. The area is a biodiversity hotspot, home to rare flora and fauna, including the Wroughton's Freetailed Bat. Reaching the viewing point involves a trek of about 4 to 5 kilometers through undulating terrain and river crossings, which is why it is favored by serious trekkers and nature enthusiasts. The sheer scale of the falls is best appreciated from a distance on the opposite hill, where the entire vertical drop is visible against the backdrop of dark green cliffs. During the monsoon, the roar of the water can be heard from miles away, and the mist created by the fall often blankets the surrounding valley. It is a place of raw, untouched beauty that offers a true wilderness experience. Because it is located in a protected area, the ecosystem remains undisturbed, providing a sanctuary for those looking to disconnect from the modern world. However, visiting requires careful planning and often permission from the forest department, ensuring that the impact on the environment is minimized. It is a must-visit for anyone seeking a "hidden gem" in the heart of nature. :
