Jakhoo Temple

Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India
Jakhoo Temple is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman, perched atop Jakhoo Hill, which is the highest peak in Shimla at an altitude of approximately 2,455 meters (8,054 feet). The temple is famous for its massive, 108-foot-tall statue of Lord Hanuman, which is visible from most parts of Shimla. According to the epic Ramayana, Lord Hanuman paused at this spot to rest while searching for the life-saving Sanjeevani Booti herb to revive Lord Lakshmana. The temple is accessible via a steep trek, by road (taxi), or most popularly, by the modern Jakhoo Ropeway. The summit offers breathtaking panoramic views of the entire Shimla city, the Shivalik mountain ranges, and the distant, snow-capped Himalayas. The atmosphere is spiritual, and the presence of numerous playful monkeys is a notable characteristic of the visit.

Traditional Hill Temple and Modern Statue :

    Dimension:

Hanuman Statue 108 Feet Tall : The original temple is built in a traditional, simple hill style, utilizing local materials. However, the modern architecture is dominated by the monumental 108-foot tall statue of Lord Hanuman, which is made of cement and steel and painted in vibrant colors. The statue's base features a small temple and viewing platforms. The recent addition of the state-of-the-art Jakhoo Ropeway terminal also introduces modern, functional architecture to the hill. The juxtaposition of the ancient temple with the massive modern statue and ropeway infrastructure is a unique architectural characteristic of the site.
