Kuppanatham Dam

Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India
Kuppanatham Dam is a significant masonry and earthen dam built across the Solai River in the Javadhu Hills foothills. Although it falls near the border of Vellore and Tiruvannamalai, it is a popular weekend getaway for Vellore residents. The dam was primarily constructed for irrigation purposes, se rving thousands of acres of agricultural land. The reservoir is surrounded by lush green hills, creating a picturesque backdrop that resembles a mini-hill station. The area is quiet and relatively untouched by commercial tourism. Visitors can walk along the bund of the dam to enjoy the breeze and the vast expanse of water. During the monsoon, when the water level is high, the excess water is released through the spillways, creating a spectacular sight. The surrounding region is home to tribal settlements and sandalwood forests. It is a peaceful spot for those who want to avoid the crowds of more popular destinations. The drive to the dam itself is scenic, passing through winding roads and rural landscapes.:
