Naldehra Golf Course

Naldehra, Himachal Pradesh, Country: India:
A Historical and Scenic Masterpiece::The Naldehra Golf Course is an 18-hole, par-68 golf course that holds the distinction of being one of the oldest and most scenic natural golf courses in India. It was conceptualized and laid out by the then Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon, in the early 1900s (aroun d 1905). Lord Curzon was so mesmerized by the glade's natural beauty that he named his third daughter, Alexandra Naldehra, after the place. The course is set at a remarkable altitude of over 2,200 meters, surrounded by a dense, sloping forest of Deodar and pine trees. The natural contours of the Himalayan landscape provide a unique and challenging design for golfers, while its serene and misty ambiance attracts tourists globally, making it a masterpiece of nature and colonial legacy.::

Natural Topography and Colonial Design::The course's architecture is defined by its use of the natural mountain terrain, unlike the flat, artificial courses found in the plains.

Course Dimensions and Holes:: It is an 18-hole course (originally 9-hole), featuring 16 greens and 18 tees, sprawling over a large, naturally contoured glade at a high altitude. The unique design of the holes uses the steep slopes and natural curves of the hillside, making it challenging.

Greens and Fairways:: The fairways are lined with towering Deodar trees, which not only enhance the beauty but also serve as natural hazards. The elevation changes throughout the course are a key architectural feature, dictating the nature of the game.

Colonial Influence:: The design reflects the typical British colonial preference for integrating sports facilities into pristine natural settings, creating a challenging yet beautiful environment. ::
