Pali Shiva Temple

Korba, Chhattisgarh, India
Place Details: The Pali Shiva Temple is one of the most significant archaeological sites in Chhattisgarh, dating back to the 9th century. Built by the Bana dynasty king Vikramaditya, also known as Jayameyu, this temple is a masterpiece of ancient stone carving. It sits on the banks of a large, beaut iful pond that remains filled with water throughout the year. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is renowned for its intricate sculptures that are often compared to the temples of Khajuraho and the Abu Hills. The structure has survived for over a millennium, witnessing the rise and fall of several dynasties, including the Kalchuris who restored it in the 11th century. The interior is cool even in peak summer due to the thick stone walls. The surrounding area is well-maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), with lush gardens and ancient ruins scattered across the site. It is a place of great peace and historical depth, attracting researchers, historians, and devotees alike. The site serves as a reminder of the rich cultural and artistic heritage of the Dakshin Kosala region.
