The Batighar lighthouse, known historically as the False Point Lighthouse, stands as a monumental sentinel at the mouth of the Mahanadi river. Established in the early 19th Century, this structure was the first of its kind on the eastern coast of India, designed to prevent maritime disasters caused by ships mistaking the Mahanadi delta for the Hooghly river mouth. The area surrounding it was once a dense hunting ground for the Kujanga Kings, known as Kaudia Dwip. Today, it remains an operational marvel managed by the Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships.
