Sarovar

Tarn Taran Sahib, Punjab, India
The Sarovar at Tarn Taran Sahib is legendary for being the largest of all Sikh holy tanks in the world. It was established by the fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjan Dev Ji, in 1590. The word "Tarn Taran" literally means "the boat that carries one across" the ocean of existence. This sacred water body is b elieved to have medicinal properties, particularly for skin ailments. Historically, the Guru established a leper home near the sarovar to treat the sick with the holy water. Today, thousands of devotees take a dip in its waters daily. The massive structure is surrounded by a wide marble Parikarma (walkway) that provides a serene environment for prayer and meditation.
