Thenzawl Handloom Centre

Serchhip, Mizoram, India
Thenzawl Handloom Centre is the cultural soul of the region and is recognized as the largest handloom hub in the state of Mizoram. Almost every household in this town is involved in the art of weaving, making it a "Handloom City." The center is famous for producing the Puan, the traditional Mizo dr ess which is known for its intricate designs and vibrant colors. The Industries Department of the Government of Mizoram has established a Handloom Complex here to support the local artisans. Visitors can see the entire process of weaving, from the sorting of yarns to the final creation of complex patterns on traditional looms. The center produces a variety of textiles including shawls, bags, and wraps that are sold across India and even exported. The quality of craftsmanship here is unparalleled, reflecting the rich heritage of the Mizo people. It is not just a factory but a living museum where the rhythmic sound of the looms creates a unique atmosphere. The weavers are mostly women who have passed down these skills through generations. Buying a piece of cloth here means owning a part of Mizo history.
