Vantawng Falls

Chhingpuii Thlan, Mizoram, India
Vantawng Falls is the highest and most spectacular waterfall in Mizoram, plunging from a height of 751 feet. It is a two-tiered waterfall located on the Vanva River. The falls are named after Vantawng, a legendary swimmer who was said to be so talented that he could dance in the falling water like a fish, though he tragically died during one such performance. The waterfall is surrounded by a dense forest of bamboo and tropical hardwoods, making it difficult to reach the base. Therefore, the Tourism Department has constructed a comfortable viewing gallery for visitors. From this vantage point, one can see the massive white column of water striking the rocks below, surrounded by a deep green valley. During the monsoon, the fall is a thunderous force of nature, visible from miles away. It is a symbol of the rugged and majestic landscape of the Mizo hills. Even in the drier months, the sheer height of the cliff makes it an awe-inspiring sight. It is a centerpiece of tourism in the Serchhip district.
