Bhim Nala Falls

Chungthang, Sikkim, India
Known popularly among tourists as the Amitabh Bachchan Falls, this stunning cascade is officially named Bhim Nala Falls. The nickname comes from the legendary Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan, known for his incredible height; similarly, this waterfall is one of the tallest and most imposing in the region. Legend says that a movie crew once filmed near here, and the comparison stuck in the local memory. The fall is a powerhouse of nature, with water crashing down from a height of nearly 900 feet in a three-step formation. The sound of the falling water is thunderous and can be heard from a significant distance even before you see the falls. It is a vital landmark in the Mangan district, serving as a primary attraction for anyone traveling deeper into the high-altitude valleys. The water is pristine, originating from the high-altitude snowfields of the Himalayas, and remains icy cold even in the peak of Summer. There is a small plaza area built by the side of the road where tourists can park their vehicles and admire the view safely. Over the years, small kiosks selling local snacks like Maggi and Momos have cropped up, making it a social hub for travelers. The mist generated by the falls creates a localized micro-environment where ferns and mosses thrive on every available surface. It is a place of high energy and natural drama, embodying the wild spirit of North Sikkim. :
