Historically, this site has been a place of rest for travelers moving between the hills of Nagaland and the plains of Manipur. The name "Elie-e Che" is local and refers to the "shimmering" or "laughing" waters, a name that perfectly describes the sound of the falls as they hit the rocks below. The surrounding forest is dense and rich with ferns and wild orchids, creating a micro-climate that is significantly cooler than the village.
