Gundicha Temple / Nursinghanath Temple
Historical Significance : The Gundicha Temple in Sonepur is also known as the Nursinghanath Temple. It is a significant historical monument, often cited as the last great architectural work of the Chouhan dynasty in the region. Built by Rani Gundicha Devi, wife of Raja Prithviraj Singh Deo, in the 17th century to commemorate the birth of her son, it originally housed the deity Lord Narasimha. The wooden idol was later replaced by a metal (astadhatu) idol by Maharaja Prataprudra Singh Deo. It is distinct from the Puri Gundicha Temple but shares the same spiritual devotion to Lord Jagannath.
