Construction and Founder: The Begambur Big Mosque, also known as the Begumpur Mosque, is a historically significant place of worship constructed in 1766 by Haidar Ali (father of Tipu Sultan) during his time as the Faujdar of Dindigul. It is one of the oldest mosques in the region, built primarily fo r the use of his soldiers and the local Muslim community. Name Origin: The mosque and its surrounding area, Begampur, are named after Ameerunnisa Begum, the younger sister of Haidar Ali and the wife of the Dindigul Killedar Mir Riza Ali Khan. Her tomb (Dargah) is located within the mosque premises, making it a revered place. Community Center: It serves as the principal and largest mosque in Dindigul, acting as a central hub for religious and social activities for the local Muslim population. It actively promotes peace and spiritual guidance.:
