How To Reach Bishhalakshmi Temple

Bakkhali, West Bengal, India
The Bishhalakshmi Temple is one of the most prominent cultural and religious landmarks in Bakkhali, serving as a spiritual anchor for the local community and a significant stop for pilgrims and tourists. It is dedicated to Goddess Bishhalakshmi, a local form of the goddess Lakshmi, who is widely rev ered in this coastal area, particularly by the fishing community. The location of the temple is incredibly convenient, situated just a stone's throw from the main bus stand and the access to the sea, making it the first or last stop for many visitors. The temple is not known for grand, historical architecture; rather, it is a simple, modern, yet deeply revered structure that embodies the local faith. The goddess is believed to protect the local fishermen, guide their journeys, and ensure a plentiful catch, reflecting the deep, intrinsic link between the sea and the community's livelihood. Visitors often come here to offer prayers for safe journeys and good fortune before heading out to the sea or before beginning their journey back home. The atmosphere inside the temple is one of quiet devotion and piety, offering a contrast to the bustling activity of the nearby market and the expansive beach. Its importance lies not in its physical appearance, but in its central role in the cultural and spiritual life of Bakkhali's inhabitants.

How to Reach

The temple's central location makes it the most easily accessible spot in the entire Bakkhali area.

By Air: The journey starts at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU) in Kolkata (150 KMS). Take a train or taxi to Namkhana, cross the Hatania-Doania river by ferry, and take the final 25 KMS bus or taxi ride directly to the Bakkhali Bus Stand. The temple is located immediately adjacent to the bus stand, within a one-minute walk.

By Train: Take the local train from Sealdah South Section to Namkhana Railway Station (NMKA). Cross the river by ferry. From the ferry ghat, board the local bus or a reserved Toto directly to the Bakkhali Bus Stand. The temple is right there. The entire journey is linear and ends at this central point.

By Road: Drive from Kolkata (125 KMS) to Namkhana, cross the vehicular ferry, and drive the final 25 KMS to the main Bakkhali tourist area. The temple is clearly marked and located at the junction of the main road and the turn-off for the beach. Parking is available in the nearby bus stand area. By Local Transport (From Bakkhali) If you are already staying in Bakkhali, the temple is likely within walking distance of most hotels and lodges (0. 1 to 1 KM). If staying further out (e. g. , near Henry's Island), take a Toto or cycle-rickshaw to the Bakkhali Bus Stand. Since it is the primary drop-off point, all local transport routes terminate or pass by the temple.
