How To Reach Fraserganj Wind Park

Bakkhali, West Bengal, India
The Fraserganj Wind Park is a unique and prominent landmark in the Bakkhali region, representing a striking blend of modern technology and raw coastal nature. The park consists of numerous large Wind Turbines erected along the coast near Fraserganj to harness the powerful and consistent winds blowin g from the Bay of Bengal. While the primary purpose is to generate clean energy for the region, the sight of the massive, slow-moving blades turning against the vast, open sky has made it a significant point of interest for tourists. It offers a distinct visual contrast to the ancient sea and the rustic fishing village, providing a modern, almost futuristic aesthetic to the predominantly rural landscape. The area around the turbines is generally quiet and less crowded than the main Bakkhali Beach, making it a great spot for peaceful observation. Although visitors cannot approach the turbines too closely for safety reasons, they can be viewed clearly from the approach roads and certain stretches of the nearby beach. The sheer scale of the turbines, with their long, elegant blades, is particularly impressive when viewed from below, especially during the golden hour of sunrise or sunset when they stand as majestic silhouettes on the horizon. The project symbolizes the area's commitment to sustainable energy development while providing a powerful and unique backdrop for photography.

How to Reach

The park is easily reached via the local transport network that connects Bakkhali and Fraserganj.

By Air: The journey starts at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU) in Kolkata (150 KMS). Take the train or taxi to Namkhana, cross the river ferry, and then proceed to Bakkhali. From the Bakkhali Bus Stand, hire a reserved Toto or cycle-rickshaw for the final 4 KMS journey to the Fraserganj Wind Park site, which is visible from a distance along the coastal road.

By Train: Take the local train from Sealdah South Section to Namkhana Railway Station (NMKA). Cross the Hatania-Doania river by ferry. From the ferry ghat, board a shared bus or reserved vehicle heading towards Bakkhali and Fraserganj. The driver can drop you on the main road from where the turbines are clearly visible. A reserved Toto from Bakkhali is the easiest way to reach the closest viewing point directly.

By Road: From Kolkata (125 KMS), drive to Namkhana, cross the vehicular ferry, and then follow the road towards Fraserganj (which is just beyond Bakkhali). The Wind Park is situated along the coast near the Fraserganj Fishing Harbour. The roads are paved and easily navigable, but driving slowly is recommended due to local traffic and pedestrians. The journey is an extension of the main drive to Bakkhali. By Local Transport (From Bakkhali) The most practical option is to hire a reserved Toto (battery-operated rickshaw) or a cycle-rickshaw from the main Bakkhali Bus Stand. Negotiate a rate for a round trip with waiting time. The journey takes about 15 minutes one way. Since the park is a famous landmark, all local drivers are familiar with the location. This short, inexpensive trip makes the park highly accessible for all tourists staying in the Bakkhali area.
