How To Reach Pazhavangadi Ganapathy Temple

Thiruvananthapuram , Kerala, India
The Pazhavangadi Ganapathy Temple is one of the most revered and strategically located temples in Thiruvananthapuram, dedicated to Lord Ganesha (Sri Maha Ganapathy). It is situated right inside the historically significant East Fort area, close to the iconic Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple. The presidin g deity, Lord Ganesha, is worshipped in a unique seated posture where the right leg is folded—a stance considered particularly auspicious and known as the Varadayaka Maha Ganapathy (the Giver of Boons). The temple holds special historical significance as it was originally managed by the military regiment of the erstwhile Travancore Kingdom and is currently maintained by the Indian Army (Madras Regiment), a rare distinction for a Hindu temple in Kerala. This military connection adds a layer of unique heritage to the shrine. The temple complex is not large but is packed with beautiful devotional art. Its walls and inner areas are adorned with sculptures representing the 32 different forms of Lord Ganesha, offering a complete visual narrative of the deity's mythology. The main offering here is the breaking of coconuts (Nalikeram Odakkal), a ritual performed by devotees to remove obstacles and seek blessings. Its central location, historical legacy, and focused devotion to the remover of obstacles make it a compelling visit for both pilgrims and tourists.
