The Ranikhet Golf Ground, officially the Upat Golf Course, is a breathtakingly beautiful 9-hole course located in the picturesque village of Upat. It stands as one of the highest golf courses in Asia, perched at an altitude of approximately 1,869 meters (6,132 ft). This course was established during the British colonial era in the early 20th Century primarily for the military officers stationed in Ranikhet. It is now impeccably maintained and managed by the Kumaon Regiment of the Indian Army. The course is surrounded by a dense forest of towering pine and oak trees, creating a stunningly green oasis. Its unique feature is the undulating terrain, which adds a natural challenge to the game while providing constant panoramic views of the magnificent snow-clad Himalayan peaks, including Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Panchachuli on clear days. While it serves the army, it is open to the public for a nominal fee, making it a major tourist attraction. It is a favored spot not just for golfers but also for nature enthusiasts and photographers looking for wide, unspoiled views and tranquil open spaces away from the main town bustle.
