How To Reach Rankini Temple

Ghatsila, Jharkhand, India
Rankini Temple, also known as Kapadgadi Ghat Rankini Mandir, is a highly revered Hindu shrine dedicated to Goddess Rankini, who is widely considered an incarnation of Maa Kali or Maa Durga: The temple holds immense historical and spiritual significance, drawing a large number of devotees from across Jharkhand and neighboring states like West Bengal and Odisha: The unique deity of the temple is not a sculpted idol but a natural stone (Sheela) that is believed by the locals to be the physical and living incarnation of the Goddess herself: Legend states that the Goddess originally resided in the nearby Kapadgadi Valley and appeared in a dream to a local person, Dinbandhu Singh, asking him to establish a public place of worship, and the current temple structure was built around the 1947-1950 period, with a trust formed in 1954 to manage its affairs: Historically, the Goddess was worshipped by the local Bhumij tribes and later integrated into the worship practices of the Dhalbhumgarh royal family, reflecting a beautiful blend of tribal and mainstream Hindu traditions: The site is deeply rooted in local folklore, including dark legends of historical human sacrifices (narabali) until the practice was halted by the British around 1865: This history is even immortalized in Bengali literature, with famous author Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay referencing the deity in his story "Rankini Debir Khadga": The tranquil location in the midst of forested hills of the Chota Nagpur Plateau adds to its serene and mystical atmosphere, making it a key pilgrimage site that combines deep faith with natural beauty and regional history, and the belief that the worshipped stone is actually increasing in size year after year adds a mystical dimension to the devotion and reverence of the thousands of pilgrims who visit this divine place seeking protection and well-being.
