Kedarkantha Peak

Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, India
Description: Kedarkantha Peak is widely regarded as one of the best winter trekking destinations in India. Standing at an altitude of 3,800 meters (12,500 feet), the summit offers a breathtaking 360-degree view of the massive Himalayan ranges, including Swargarohini, Bandarpunch, and Black Peak. The trek starts from the picturesque village of Sankri and takes you through dense pine and oak forests that transform into a snowy paradise during the winter months. One of the highlights of the trek is the campsite at Juda Ka Talab, a high-altitude lake that remains completely frozen from December to March. Legend has it that Lord Shiva once meditated at the peak but moved to Kedarnath after being disturbed by a bull. The peak is adorned with a small stone shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesha. The climb to the summit is exhilarating, especially the final stretch which is usually covered in knee-deep snow. The sunrise from the peak is a life-changing experience, as the first rays of the sun turn the surrounding snow-capped peaks into glowing gold. The trek is beginner-friendly due to its gradual ascent and well-marked trails. Along the way, trekkers encounter beautiful meadows called "Bugyals" which are lush green in summer and pristine white in winter. The local villagers are incredibly hospitable, often sharing stories of mountain spirits and ancient traditions. It is a perfect blend of adventure, spirituality, and natural beauty.
