Maneri Dam

Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, India
The Lifeblood of Local Power: Maneri Dam is a concrete gravity dam built across the Bhagirathi River. Completed in 1984, it diverts water to the Tiloth Power Plant to generate 90 MW of electricity. The most striking feature of the dam is the large, turquoise-colored lake it creates, which reflects t he surrounding pine forests and snow-capped peaks. It is a major stopover for pilgrims traveling to Gangotri Dham. The sight of the gushing water released from the spillway gates is both terrifying and magnificent. The area is developed as a picnic spot where tourists can relax and enjoy the cool Himalayan breeze.
