Thusharagiri Waterfalls

Kozhikode, Kerala, India
Thusharagiri Waterfalls, which literally translates to "snow-capped mountains," is a magnificent cascade nestled in the Western Ghats. It is formed by the Chalippuzha River, which diverges into three distinct waterfalls: Erattumukku, Mazhavil Chattam, and Thumbithullum Para. This site is widely kno wn as a "Trekker's Paradise" because of the challenging and scenic trails that lead through dense evergreen forests and rubber plantations. The highest fall drops from about 75 meters, creating a misty spray that resembles snow, giving the place its name. Thusharagiri is not just a sightseeing spot but an eco-tourism hub where visitors can engage in rock climbing and river rafting during the peak monsoon season. The area is rich in biodiversity, and a trek to the top offers a chance to see exotic birds and rare butterflies. The trek from Thusharagiri to Vythiri in Wayanad is a popular route for serious adventurers. For casual visitors, the first fall is easily accessible and features natural pools perfect for a refreshing dip in the cold, crystal-clear mountain water. The surrounding ginger and spice plantations add a fragrant touch to the trek. Managed by the Kerala Forest Department, the site is well-maintained with clear pathways and safety railings. It is a perfect getaway for those looking to escape the coastal heat and immerse themselves in the raw, green beauty of the Ghats.
