Watch Tower
The Watch Tower from the epoch of Maharaja Ranjit Singh is a significant military heritage site located near the borders of Nawanshahr. Built during the 19th century, this tower served as a strategic observation post for the Sikh Empire's army to monitor movements along the Satluj River and the Shi valik foothills. The tower is a sturdy cylindrical structure made of traditional Nanakshahi bricks and lime mortar. It represents the military prowess and administrative reach of the "Lion of Punjab." From the top of the tower, one could see for several miles, ensuring that no enemy could cross the river unnoticed. Today, the tower stands as a proud reminder of the Sikh Empire's sovereignty and its efforts to fortify the Punjab region. It is situated in a rural landscape, surrounded by fields, giving it a very authentic and historical feel. Visitors can see the small windows or "loopholes" used by soldiers for musketry. While it is a small structure compared to forts, its historical weight is immense. It provides a rare glimpse into the defensive architecture of the 1800s.
