Biharinath Hill

Bankura, West Bengal, India
Biharinath Hill is the highest peak of the Bankura District, rising to an altitude of approximately 1,480 feet (451 meters). Situated in a tranquil, forested area, it is one of the most scenic and least commercialized natural destinations in the region. The hill is part of the easternmost foothills of the Chota Nagpur Plateau. The base of the hill is renowned for the ancient Biharinath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, which lends the hill its spiritual significance and name. The environment is characterized by dense deciduous forests and lush greenery, particularly during and immediately after the monsoon season. A large, beautiful man-made lake (Biharinath Jheel) sits near the base, significantly enhancing the area s scenic value and making it a popular spot for picnics and boating. The area attracts trekkers who enjoy the relatively easier climb compared to some other hills in the area, offering splendid views of the surrounding Purulia and Bankura plains. Biharinath is primarily a place for quiet relaxation, spiritual retreat, and immersion in the natural beauty of the region's hilly terrain. The remoteness adds to its charm, providing a true escape from urban noise.
