Bura-Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary

This wildlife sanctuary is a vital ecological zone, primarily an excellent destination for birdwatchers and those interested in the wetland ecosystem. It's designated as an Important Bird Area (IBA) and is home to a rich variety of avian species, both resident and migratory, especially during winte r months. You can spot the critically endangered White-winged Wood Duck here, along with various storks, pelicans, and waterfowls. Beyond birds, Bura-Chapori is also home to Indian rhinoceros (though sightings are less frequent than in Kaziranga), wild buffalo, elephants, and various species of deer. The landscape is characterized by its wetlands, grasslands, and riparian forests. It serves as an important corridor for wildlife movement and plays a crucial role in the conservation efforts of the region. Being less commercialized than other major parks, it offers a more serene and unadulterated wildlife experience. Boat safaris are sometimes available on the Brahmaputra's tributaries that flow through the sanctuary, offering unique perspectives for wildlife viewing.
