How To Reach Aru Valley

How to Reach

By Air: The nearest airport is Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport (Srinagar Airport, SRX), which is approximately 100 KMS away. From the airport, one must hire a pre-paid taxi or a private cab to reach Pahalgam, which takes about 2. 5 to 3 hours, and then take a local cab to Aru.

By Train: The nearest major railway station is Jammu Tawi (JAT), approximately 270 KMS away. From Jammu Tawi, one has to take a taxi or bus to Srinagar or directly to Pahalgam, followed by local transport to Aru. The journey is long, often taking 7 to 8 hours by road from Jammu Tawi to Pahalgam.

By Road: Aru Valley is accessible by road from Pahalgam. Due to local union rules, you must hire a local taxi from the Pahalgam taxi stand (outside contractors are not allowed to ferry tourists to Aru, Betaab, or Chandanwari). The drive is scenic, covering about 12-13 KMS and takes around 30-45 minutes.

By Local Transport: Shared taxis (often Tata Sumos) are available from the main Pahalgam taxi stand to Aru, which is a more economical option, though they only run when full. Pony rides are for intra-valley travel, not for reaching Aru from Pahalgam.
