How To Reach Bhaderwah Fort

Bhaderwah, Jammu and Kashmir, India
Bhaderwah Fort, also locally known as Qilla, is a monument that encapsulates the rich historical and cultural legacy of the Chenab Valley. Constructed in 1733 AD by Raja Pahar Chand, the fort originally served as the administrative seat and a strategic military outpost to guard the valley. Over the centuries, it witnessed the rule of various principalities and later, a crucial period during the Indian freedom struggle. It gained notoriety when it was briefly converted into a jail, notably housing political prisoners and freedom fighters like Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and Sant Singh Teg. Its historical role as a place of confinement and later, a symbol of resistance, lends it significant national importance. Today, the fort has been beautifully restored, including the installation of a modern LED-based light and sound system that narrates its complex history to visitors. Perched atop a hill, it offers the most magnificent, commanding view of the entire bowl-shaped Bhaderwah valley, the meandering Neeru River, and the snow-capped mountains of the Pir Panjal and Kailash ranges. The blend of historical intrigue and stunning natural vistas makes it a must-visit destination for anyone exploring 'Mini Kashmir'.
