How To Reach Bharat Koop

Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh, India
Bharat Koop, literally translating to 'Bharat's Well', is a deeply significant pilgrimage site associated with the Ramayana epic and the unparalleled devotion of Lord Ram's brother, Bharat. The legend states that upon finding Lord Ram in exile at Chitrakoot, Bharat unsuccessfully attempted to persua de him to return to Ayodhya and take the throne. As a mark of respect and devotion, Bharat had collected water from all the holy rivers and pilgrimage sites (Teerths) in India to anoint Ram as king. When Ram refused, Bharat, on the advice of Maharishi Atri, poured all the sacred water into this one well. Consequently, it is believed that bathing in or drinking the water from Bharat Koop is equivalent to bathing in all the holy rivers and teerths of the country, granting salvation (mukti). The site features the ancient, massive well and a prominent temple complex dedicated to Lord Ram and his family, often called the Char Bhai Mandir (Four Brothers' Temple), solidifying its religious importance as a unique symbol of filial piety and spiritual sanctity.
