How To Reach Dal Lake

Dal Lake in Bhaderwah (often differentiated from the Srinagar one) is a beautiful, small, and serene lake situated in the village of Sartingal, only about 2 kilometers from the main Bhaderwah town. Nestled amidst rolling green hills and dense patches of deodar and pine trees, it offers a peaceful an d picturesque escape. It serves as a prime local spot for relaxation, leisurely walks, and boating. Unlike its massive counterpart, the Bhaderwah Dal Lake is compact, allowing visitors to easily stroll along its perimeter and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere. The surrounding mountains often reflect clearly in its still water, creating stunning mirror images that are a photographer's delight. The area has been developed with basic tourist facilities by the local authorities, including walkways and a few small refreshment stalls, making it easily accessible for all ages. In the colder months, the surrounding area may receive snowfall, transforming the landscape into a snowy wonderland, while in the summer and autumn, it is a burst of vibrant green and clear skies. The lake is considered sacred by locals and is a common setting for religious and cultural gatherings, highlighting its importance to the community beyond just tourism. Its accessibility and small scale make it an ideal spot for an unhurried, peaceful half-day visit near the town center.

How to Reach

By Air: The nearest major airport is Jammu Airport (IXJ), approximately 200-210 KMS from Bhaderwah town. From the airport, a private taxi or shared taxi to Bhaderwah town is necessary (approx. 6-8 hours). Once in Bhaderwah, the lake is a short drive. The final 2 KMS journey to the lake is easy and fast.

By Train: The nearest practical railhead is Udhampur Railway Station (approx. 120 KMS) or the main Jammu Tawi Railway Station (200 KMS). From either station, take a bus or hired taxi to Bhaderwah town (approx. 4-7 hours). Once in Bhaderwah, the final leg to the lake is extremely short and can be covered by a local auto or shared taxi.

By Road: Bhaderwah town is well-connected via NH-244 from Batote. The lake is only about 2 KMS from the main Bhaderwah town center, a 5-10 minute drive. Regular local transport, including shared Sumos, autos, or hired private taxis, ply the route between the town and Sartingal village, where the lake is located. Walking from the town center is also a viable option for those who enjoy a short hike.

By Local Transport: From the Bhaderwah main market or bus stand, the easiest way is to take a local auto-rickshaw or hire a specific taxi/cab for the short trip. A shared taxi/Sumo going towards Sartingal or Neeru will also drop you near the entrance. It's a very affordable and quick local trip. :
