How To Reach Gosay Bandh Chhotki Pona

Ramgarh, Jharkhand, India
Natural Setting and Water Body:: Gosay Bandh Chhotki Pona is a picturesque water body, likely a large reservoir or a traditional village bandh (embankment/dam), nestled amidst the undulating landscape of Ramgarh district, offering a tranquil escape from the nearby town life. It is situated close to the villages of Chhotki Pona and Chhotki Lari, making it an accessible spot for local gatherings and recreation. The reservoir collects rainwater, especially during the Monsoon season, and is often surrounded by agricultural fields and patches of green, rocky terrain typical of the Chota Nagpur Plateau. The name itself, combining 'Bandh' and 'Pona', suggests a structure built to manage water resources, perhaps primarily for irrigation, that has naturally evolved into a scenic picnic destination. The calm waters reflect the sky and the surrounding hills, creating a soothing and photogenic environment. This locale is a favored spot for families and groups looking for a day trip, especially on weekends and during the cooler winter months, offering simplicity and natural beauty over commercial development. The peaceful ambiance provides a stark contrast to the industrial activities found in parts of the Ramgarh region, emphasizing the area's rich, yet often overlooked, rural charm. The vastness of the water body and the open sky offer a feeling of expanse and quietude, which is highly valued by visitors seeking relaxation and a brief connection with nature in the heart of Jharkhand.

How to Reach

By Air:: The nearest major airport is Birsa Munda Airport (IXR) in Ranchi, approximately 55 to 60 KMS away from Gosay Bandh Chhotki Pona. From the airport, visitors can hire a prepaid taxi, a private cab, or an app-based taxi service to reach Ramgarh town and then continue towards Chhotki Pona. The drive from Ranchi to the spot takes about 1. 5 to 2 hours via the NH 33 or connecting state highways. This is the most comfortable but most expensive way to reach the destination for out-of-state or international visitors.

By Train:: The nearest major railway station is Ramgarh Cantt Railway Station (RMT), located in Ramgarh town, approximately 15 KMS from the spot. Ramgarh is well-connected to major cities like Ranchi, Kolkata, Patna, and Delhi. Another viable option is Barkakana Junction (BRKA), also nearby. Upon reaching the railway station, one can easily hire a local auto-rickshaw (tempo/tuk-tuk) or a taxi to complete the remaining journey to Chhotki Pona village. For long-distance travelers, this is the most economical and efficient mode.

By Road:: Ramgarh is well-connected by a strong network of national and state highways, including NH 33. The drive from Ramgarh town is via the local roads leading towards Chitarpur and the villages of Chhotki Pona or Chhotki Lari. The road quality is generally good till the town, but the final stretch to the actual spot might be a narrower and slightly rougher village road (kaccha path). Regular bus services ply from Ranchi, Hazaribagh, and Bokaro to Ramgarh, from where local transport must be utilized.

By Local Transport:: From the Ramgarh bus stand or railway station, the most common form of local transport is a shared or private auto-rickshaw (local tempo). Negotiate the fare in advance, as metered taxis are scarce. A private auto-rickshaw should charge around Rs.300 to Rs.500 for a return trip with waiting time. Local buses or mini-vans going towards Chitarpur or neighboring villages like Barki Pona or Murubanda might also drop you near the spot, but their frequency is low, and the final 1-2 KMS might require a walk.
