How To Reach Mini Goa

Dhamtari, Chhattisgarh, India
Concept and Location: Mini Goa is the popular, affectionate name given to the thriving tourist zone developed around the massive Gangrel Dam (Pandit Ravishankar Jalashay) and its reservoir. It is not a single, distinct location but an area encompassing Bova Beach, the resorts (Bardiha Lake View Cott age), and the dedicated water sports facilities. The name is apt because the vast expanse of the reservoir creates the illusion of a sea, and the introduction of high-octane water sports successfully recreates the energetic, recreational vibe of a coastal destination like Goa in landlocked Chhattisgarh. Key Attractions: The area's focus is on recreational tourism and adventure. Key attractions include the sandy banks for relaxation, a wide array of motorized water sports, organized boat cruises to the internal islands, and well-developed hospitality services, including quality resorts and food stalls. It represents a successful attempt by the Chhattisgarh Tourism Board to turn a large-scale engineering project into a major, multi-faceted tourist destination, drawing significant crowds from nearby cities like Raipur and Bhilai. The combination of dam viewing and high-thrill activities is its primary draw.

How to Reach

By Air: The nearest major airport is Swami Vivekananda Airport, Raipur (RPR), approximately 90-100 KMS away. Hire a taxi or cab directly from the airport to the Gangrel Dam area, which takes about 2 to 3 hours.

By Train: The nearest major railway station is Raipur Junction (R), about 90 KMS away. From the station, the most convenient option is a pre-booked private cab. Dhamtari's station is not suitable for long-distance travel.

By Road: Mini Goa is located on the reservoir bank of Gangrel Dam, approximately 15 KMS from Dhamtari city center, and about 90 KMS from Raipur via NH-30. The road is excellent and well-maintained, making it a comfortable car/bus journey. State buses and private transport are widely available to Dhamtari.

By Local Transport: From Dhamtari city, hiring an Auto-Rickshaw or a local Taxi is the easiest and most direct way to reach the Mini Goa area (Dangi Macha/Rudri). The ride is about 20-30 minutes. Ensure the driver agrees to wait or to pick you up at a scheduled time, as return transport can be tricky on weekdays.
