How To Reach Nakari Falls
How to Reach
Via Birsa Munda Airport, Ranchi: The nearest major airport is Birsa Munda Airport (IXR) in Ranchi, approximately 70-80 KMS from the falls and about 60 KMS from Ramgarh Cantonment. This airport is well-connected with major Indian cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Bangalore. From the airport, one must hire a pre-booked taxi or use ride-sharing services for the two-hour drive to Ramgarh Cantonment, and then proceed to the falls via local transport. The route is scenic, often passing through the Patratu Valley or the NH-33 highway.
By Train: Via Ramgarh Cantonment or Barkakana Railway Station: The closest major railhead is Ramgarh Cantonment Railway Station (RMT), which is well-connected to many parts of Jharkhand and India. Alternatively, Barkakana Railway Station (BRKA) is another nearby option, often connected to the same major routes. From Ramgarh Cantonment station, the waterfall is a short road journey of about 20-25 KMS. Visitors can hire a local taxi, a tempo, or an auto-rickshaw directly to Saunda village near the falls. Ensure the local driver knows the exact location of the falls, as it is a regional spot.
By Road:
Excellent National Highway Connectivity: Ramgarh is strategically located on major National Highways, including NH-33 and NH-20 (part of the major East-West corridor). Traveling by road is arguably the most convenient way to reach the region. The drive from Ranchi (60 KMS) and Hazaribagh (50 KMS) is excellent. Once near Ramgarh Cantonment, take the road towards Patratu (or the route near Saunda village). The final stretch of road to the falls may be a rough, unpaved local road for the last 1-2 KMS, accessible by cars, SUVs, and two-wheelers.
By Local Transport:
Auto-Rickshaws and Taxis: Within Ramgarh Cantonment, the best way to cover the final distance of 20-25 KMS is by hiring a local cab or negotiating a fare with an auto-rickshaw driver for a round trip. Shared local taxis (often referred to as 'trekkers' or shared jeeps) might run along the main route towards Saunda or Patratu, but these will only drop you off at the main road, requiring a significant walk or a separate local arrangement for the final distance. Hiring a dedicated vehicle for the entire round trip is highly recommended for convenience and safety.
