General Overview: Narnala Fort, also historically known as Shahnur Fort, is a majestic hill fortress located at the southern edge of the Satpura Range. It is a massive complex consisting of three smaller forts: Zafarabad to the east, Narnala in the center, and Teliagarh to the west. This ancient str onghold has witnessed the rise and fall of several dynasties, including the Gond Kings, the Bahmani Sultanate, the Mughals, and the Marathas. Perched at an elevation of over 900 meters, it offers a strategic vantage point overlooking the fertile plains of Berar. The fort is sprawling, covering an area of nearly 360 acres, and is enclosed by high walls and numerous bastions. It is deeply integrated into the Melghat Tiger Reserve, which adds a layer of natural wildness to its historical grandeur. The fort is not just a military structure but a cultural crossroads where Persian inscriptions meet Hindu architectural motifs. It is famous for its massive "Nau-Gazi" cannon and the intricately carved Mahakali Gate. Exploring the fort requires a significant amount of walking through dense forest paths and rocky staircases, offering a true sense of adventure. It is a site where history breathes through the ruins of old palaces, mosques, and water tanks. By Train: Akola Junction (45 KMS) is the most convenient railway station.

By Road: Drive from Amravati to Akot, then take the forest road to the fort entrance.

By Local Transport: Private jeeps are the only reliable way to reach the fort from Akot.
