How To Reach Parmarth Niketan Ashram

Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, India:
Foundation and Spiritual Legacy: Parmarth Niketan is arguably the largest and one of the most famous and well-regarded spiritual Ashrams in Rishikesh, founded in 1942 by Swami Shukdevanand Saraswati and later developed under the guidance of Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji. It is open to people of all ba ckgrounds, castes, creeds, and nationalities, promoting universal spirituality and the unity of all faiths. The ashram offers a comprehensive spiritual curriculum that includes daily Yoga and meditation classes, Satsangs (spiritual discourses), Kirtan (devotional singing), and a significant focus on Seva (selfless service) and environmental issues, particularly the preservation of the Ganga river. Its sprawling, serene campus, set against the backdrop of the Himalayan foothills, provides a conducive environment for healing, learning, and deep spiritual reflection. The ashram’s activities are highly organized and structured, making it a reliable destination for both long-term spiritual aspirants and short-term visitors. Role in Global Yoga: The ashram has gained international acclaim for hosting the annual International Yoga Festival every March, solidifying Rishikesh's title as the "Yoga Capital of the World." This festival attracts thousands of participants and hundreds of world-renowned Yoga masters, making it a major global event. The daily Ganga Aarti performed at its private Ghat is a deeply moving experience that has become synonymous with the spiritual image of Rishikesh. :

How to Reach

By Air: The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport (DED) in Dehradun, approximately 20 KMS away. Hire a private taxi, which will take you directly to the Swarg Ashram area where the ashram is located. From the vehicle drop-off point, it’s a short walk to the ashram, as the area is vehicle-restricted.

By Train: The nearest major station is Haridwar Railway Station (HW), about 25 KMS away. The smaller Rishikesh Railway Station (RKSH) is about 16 KMS away. From either station, take a taxi or shared auto-rickshaw to Ram Jhula or Swarg Ashram, from where Parmarth Niketan is a short, pleasant walk across Ram Jhula or through the market street.

By Road: Parmarth Niketan is located in the Swarg Ashram area on the eastern bank of the Ganga. You can reach the Ram Jhula area by car/bus via NH 7. The most common approach is to cross the Ram Jhula pedestrian bridge from the western side (Muni Ki Reti) on foot, which is about 500 meters away. There are limited roads directly to the ashram’s entrance on the eastern bank.

By Local Transport: The best way to reach is via shared auto-rickshaw (Vikram) to Ram Jhula and then walking. The ashram is well-known to all local transport providers.
