Janki Setu

Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, India
Janki Setu, also known as Janki Jhula or Janaki Pul, is a new, modern suspension bridge spanning the holy Ganga River. It was inaugurated in November 2020 as the third major bridge, constructed to alleviate the traffic and pedestrian congestion on the older, iconic Lakshman Jhula and Ram Jhula. Name d after Goddess Sita (also known as Janki), this bridge is a vital link connecting the Swargashram area on the eastern bank with the main city side near Triveni Ghat (Shatrughna Ghat area) on the western bank. Crucially, the Janki Setu is designed to accommodate both pedestrians and two-wheelers (motorcycles/scooters), unlike the older bridges which are either closed to traffic or only allow pedestrians. It is a stable, wider, and safer alternative, offering spectacular, less-cluttered views of the river, the surrounding temples, and the hills. Its modern steel structure is an example of contemporary engineering meeting spiritual necessity. (Approx. 130 words)
