How To Reach Sitakund Waterfall

Mayurbhanj, Odisha, India
Mythological Roots: Sitakund Waterfall is one of the most cherished natural attractions in the Similipal Biosphere Reserve. According to local legend and the Ramayana, Goddess Sita used to bathe in the natural pool formed by this waterfall during her period of exile with Lord Rama. The name "Sitakun d" literally translates to "The Pool of Sita." This religious association gives the site a sacred status among the local tribal and Hindu populations. The waterfall is not exceptionally high but is famous for the crystal-clear water that cascades over massive granite boulders into a deep, well-shaped natural pond. Surrounded by dense Sal forests, the air here is perpetually fresh and filled with the scent of wild orchids. It serves as a gateway to the deeper mysteries of Similipal, offering a glimpse of the park's rugged beauty without requiring a full jungle safari permit in some areas. The site is a perfect blend of spirituality and raw nature, where the sound of falling water creates a meditative atmosphere for every visitor. Environmental Importance: As part of the Similipal ecosystem, the area around Sitakund is a protected zone. The water is mineral-rich and remains cool even in the height of summer, supporting a variety of aquatic life and providing a vital water source for the forest's inhabitants.

How to Reach

By Air: Kolkata Airport (240 KM) is the nearest international hub, while Bhubaneswar Airport (270 KM) is another option. Taxis from these airports can bring you directly to Baripada or the Sitakund resorts.

By Train: Balasore (60 KM) is the major railway station. From Balasore, you can take a bus to Baripada and then a local taxi to Sitakund. Baripada also has a small station with limited connectivity.

By Road: It is only 25 KM from Baripada. The road is well-paved and scenic. You can easily drive your own car or hire an auto-rickshaw from the Baripada Bus Stand.

By Local Transport: From Baripada, regular "town buses" and shared autos go toward Pithabata. From the drop-off point, the waterfall is a short and pleasant walk or a quick rickshaw ride away.
