Indreni Pull

Mirik, West Bengal, India
Indreni Pull, famously known as the Rainbow Bridge, is the architectural centerpiece of Mirik. It is an elegant arched footbridge that spans across the Sumendu Lake, connecting the manicured garden on the eastern bank with the dense, dark pine forest on the western bank. The bridge serves both a fun ctional and aesthetic purpose; it allows tourists to cross the lake without having to walk the entire 3.5 km circumference. The name Indreni translates to "Rainbow," and the bridge was named in honor of Indreni Thapa, a martyr of the Indian National Army (INA). Standing on the bridge, one can feel the cool breeze coming off the water and watch the colorful shikaras (boats) gliding underneath. The reflection of the bridge in the still waters of the lake creates a perfect circular image, often cited as the most photographed spot in the region. The surrounding area is vibrant with local life; you can see children feeding the large schools of fish that gather near the bridge supports. The transition from the sunny garden side to the shaded, silent pine grove via this bridge is a sensory experience that defines a visit to Mirik. It symbolizes the bridge between human-made beauty and raw nature, making it a romantic and peaceful landmark.
