Jirang Monastery

Berhampur, Odisha, India
The Padmasambhava Mahavihara, popularly known as Jirang Monastery, is the largest Buddhist monastery in Eastern India. Inaugurated by the Dalai Lama in 2010, it serves as a spiritual home for Tibetan refugees who settled here in 1963. The monastery is located in the lush green hills of Chandragiri. It features a 23-foot high gold-plated statue of Lord Buddha. The atmosphere is filled with peace, chanting monks, and the smell of butter lamps. The surrounding area is famous for Tibetan handicrafts, carpets, and maize cultivation. It is a slice of Tibet in the heart of Odisha. The colorful architecture and serene landscape make it a top destination for spiritual seekers and photographers.
