Siddha Bhairabi Temple

Berhampur, Odisha, India
Siddha Bhairabi Temple, located in the village of Mantridi, is one of the most revered "Shakti Pithas" in southern Odisha. The presiding deity, Maa Bhairabi, is unique as the idol features one leg and four hands, carved in a crude yet powerful fashion. Legend has it that the idol was discovered by a farmer while plowing his field, and a temple was later built at the spot in 1937. The temple is a significant site for both Shaktism and Vaishnavism, as it also houses a replica of the Jagannath Temple from Puri within its complex. This dual religious identity makes it a unique spiritual destination. The temple complex is expansive and includes 108 smaller shrines dedicated to various Hindu gods and goddesses from across India, including the 12 Jyotirlingas. The presence of these shrines makes it a "Mini-India" of spiritual sites. The atmosphere is filled with the fragrance of flowers from the beautiful garden maintained within the premises. Devotees from Odisha and neighboring Andhra Pradesh visit in large numbers, especially on Tuesdays and during the Sankranti festivals. The temple is known for its "Anna Prasad" (holy meal) which is served to devotees at a very nominal cost. The serenity of the village setting combined with the rhythmic chants of the priests creates a deeply meditative environment.
