Lum Sohpetbneng
Place Overview: Lum Sohpetbneng, standing at an altitude of 1,343 meters, is much more than just a scenic hilltop; it is the most sacred site for the indigenous Khasi people. According to Khasi mythology, this peak is the "Navel of Heaven," where a golden vine once connected the celestial world to t he earth. It is believed that sixteen families originally descended from heaven via this vine, and while nine returned, seven stayed back to become the ancestors of the Hynniewtrep (Khasi) people. The site is a powerful symbol of the spiritual bond between man and the divine creator. Visiting Lum Sohpetbneng is a serene experience that combines history, myth, and natural beauty. The trek to the summit is relatively easy and takes you through dense pine forests and vibrant wildflower patches.
