It was built during the reign of Nawab Saadat Ali Khan II (reign: 1798–1814) and later improved upon by subsequent Nawabs, includin g Nawab Wajid Ali Shah. The complex originally comprised three main buildings: Moti Mahal, Shah Manzil, and Mubarak Manzil, all connected and used as a royal residence and a venue for viewing animal fights. Historical Role: The palace served as a primary residence for the Nawabs and was particularly important for hosting state events and for the royal family to watch battles between animals like elephants, an entertainment common during the Awadhi period. Its strategic location on the river bank offered beautiful views. Modern Status: While the original magnificent structures have either been lost or significantly altered over time, the name Moti Mahal continues to be a landmark in Lucknow.
