Photos Of Renuka Lake
Renuka Lake is the largest natural lake in Himachal Pradesh, holding immense spiritual and geographical significance. Located at an altitude of 672 meters, this serene water body is shaped like the profile of a reclining woman, believed to be the embodiment of Goddess Renuka, mother of Lord Parshur am. The lake is surrounded by lush green forests and hills, offering a tranquil environment for pilgrims and nature lovers alike. According to legend, the lake was formed when Renuka jumped into the water to escape an evil emperor, and the gods turned her into these pristine waters. It is a designated Ramsar Site, highlighting its importance as a wetland habitat for various flora and fauna. Visitors can enjoy the 2.5 KM long circumambulation path around the lake, which is dotted with small temples and resting spots. The water is crystal clear, reflecting the surrounding alpine trees, making it a visual treat during the sunrise and sunset hours. Local communities hold the lake in high regard, and fishing is strictly prohibited to maintain its sanctity. It serves as a base for many trekking trails and is the primary attraction in the Sirmaur district. The calm atmosphere is perfect for meditation and peaceful contemplation away from the city noise.
