Ooty, Tamil Nadu, India:
The Art of Thread Flowers: Thread Garden is a one-of-a-kind indoor attraction in Ooty, famed for its exquisite display of artificial flowers, plants, and lawns made entirely from specialized colored thread, canvas, and wire, a technique known as 'Four-Dimensional Hand-Wound Embroidery'. This innovat ive art form was pioneered by Mr. Antony Joseph, who, along with a team of about 50 skilled workers, dedicated over twelve years of tireless effort and experimentation to create this floral marvel. No machines or needles were used, making the garden a testament to human patience and artistic precision. The exhibits feature over 150 types of artificial flora, capturing minute details of real botanical specimens. It's listed in the India Book of Records and Unique World Records as the world's first and only garden of its kind. The garden moved to its present location near Ooty Lake in 2002. The entire collection is kept inside sealed glass cases to protect the delicate thread work from dust and damage, ensuring its long-term preservation. A visit here is a delightful and educational experience, particularly for those who appreciate fine handicrafts and unique art forms. The garden is a vibrant, colorful world, offering a permanent spring-like atmosphere, a pleasant contrast to Ooty's sometimes chilly climate. It provides a quick and memorable stop, showcasing a highly specific, intricate, and dedicated artistic discipline. The dedication behind the work, including the sheer volume of thread used (estimated at over 60 million meters), is what truly captivates visitors.:
